During the assessment process to build an MSW landfill in Washington County, Alabama, we learned that the approved site for Turkey Trot Landfill was home to a large colony of gopher tortoises, a federallyprotected species. Respect for nature and the environment is critical to Advanced Disposal, and we go to great lengths to protect the environment in all our operations. We consulted with appropriate federal and state agencies and developed a course of action that created minimal impact to the land, the tortoises and the environment.

Advanced Disposal – Jacksonville recently supported the First Coast Invasives Working Group and Jacksonville Arboretum & Gardens at their invasive plant removal cleanup. Like most of Florida, the Arboretum property has been invaded by plants such as the Chinese Tallow, Air Potato, and Cogon Grass that "take over" and crowd out other plants and therefore, must be controlled.

The Auburn Tigers at Advanced Disposal are cheering a little more loudly today. That’s because we announced that Advanced Disposal was recently awarded the Auburn University solid waste collection contract. Auburn University selected Advanced Disposal following a competitive bid process where proposals were reviewed from three collection companies. Our bid book was delivered to the university in a specially designed box made to mimic Toomers Corner on game day. The creative delivery played the Auburn fight song when the binder was opened and even managed to get the Alabama elephant rival in a can.
